Iiris is a contemporary circus piece that delves into the poem “The Hollow Men” by T. S. Eliot. The performers come together and create improvised scenes based on the five parts of the said poem. Always new, always alive and in the rhythm of the moment, they allow us to witness human frailty.
Zero Gravity Company members Maarit Utriainen and Salla Hakanpää are working on their solo projects Halla and Funis.
Maarit Utriainen is working on her first solo performance Halla (means one kind of night frost which mainly appears in the fields and on the swamps). In this work she combines contemporary circus, installation, sculpture art and light design. The aim is to share the focus alike between a performer, the sets (sculptures), a space and a light. The performer is not in the main focus but one part of the ensemble.
Maarit is using her skills of aerial acrobatics, acrobatics, handstand, physical acting and singing beside the continuous changes in the space of moving sculptures to create a moments both of stillness and change and to tell the stories of ancient swamptombs, lost child of the Lady Mist and will-o'-the-wisps.
Halla is looking for:
-Co-operative partners for residencies, production and fundings.
-Theater, gallery, museum or other art institution for the premiere and for touring starting from summer/autumn 2018.
Salla Hakanpää is working on a new piece that goes by the working title “Funis”. The creative team, Salla accompanied by sound designer Joonas Pehrsson and lighting designer Anssi Ruotanen has been working on the upcoming piece in residencies at Cirko – Center in Helsinki and La Grainerie in Toulouse. The creation has its origins in a visual inspiration from installation art and is now growing into a research of altering the space with structures made of thin lines and strings and on moving with those structures as an aerialist, but without the usual aerial circus equipment.
Funis is looking for:
-co-operative partners, residencies, funding and other support for 2018-19.
Hope to see you in Stockholm!
